This is a Catholic Sacrament of mature Christian commitment and a deepening of baptisimal gifts. Like Baptism and Communion, it is a Sacrament of initiation for Catholics and a Sacrament of faith in God’s fidelity to us.
For this Sacrament, one would need a Sponsor. The Sponsor is someone who is a living model of faith. The young person choosing the sponsor has to see in his/her sponsor a living witness of the Catholic faith.
Parents whose children were not baptised in our parish would need to provide a Baptism certificate from the respective parish prior to the day of receiving the sacrament.
The Sponsor should also forward a signed declaration from his/her parish priest in case he/she is from another parish.
