The Cathedral Crypt – accessible only with special permission – can be reached either from the vestry, or from triq bieb l-imdina. The last burial inside the crypt took place in February 1974. The entrance room has a monumental sepulchre reserved for the bishops of Gozo. In some places the huge hard stone blocks of the Cathedral foundation, some of which has also served as the foundation stones of the Roman temple on the site, are clearly visible
